Christmas Music Spotlight - Relient K

With the end of Thanksgiving comes the most wonderful time of the year - CHRISTMAS! This is easily my favorite season, and I am pumped about everything the Christmas season brings...cold weather, Christmas lights, and Christmas music. Over the next couple of weeks, I will highlight a Christmas album by one of my favorite artists and have already posted some Christmas music for your enjoyment.

Relient K's Let It Snow Baby...Let It Reindeer is an awesome compilation of Christmas favorites with some solid originals. It picks up the pace with some power punk, and then slows it right back down with a few piano ballads. One of my favorite songs on the album is "I Celebrate the Day" and the lyrics are so powerful:

And I celebrate the day
That You were born to die
So I could one day pray for You to save my life

The perspective of knowing Jesus was simply born to die & save us from our sins is life-changing, and something we need to all keep in mind year round. With such a great variety, this album is a Christmas must. And with as solid a band as Relient K, you got to pick it up. Head over to iTunes to pick up this 20-song album for only $9.99.

Thanksgiving

Last night was a great night! We started off with a church wide Thanksgiving meal, then headed upstairs for The Harvest youth service. The meal was unbelievable, with fried turkey & honey ham, not to forget 2 whole tables with just desserts. Good stuff!

The Harvest teaching was on changing our perspective of Thanksgiving. Granted we need to be thankful to the Lord for what He has blessed us with, but most importantly, we need to be thankful for what He has DONE for us. We need to be thankful the Lord chose to make us in His image, He sent His ONE & ONLY son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, and that He gives us the hope of eternal life with Him through the free gift of salvation. So I want to challenge us all this Thanksgiving to focus more on what God has DONE for us more than what He has given & blessed us with.

The Harvest closed with a visual of a blank canvas. A blank canvas that represents purity & innocence. And then the canvas became covered with spray paint, representing how ugly & dirty sin makes our lives. But underneath all that filth, Jesus has REDEEMED us by dying on the cross & being raised from the dead. How Jesus has removed our filth, canceled our sin, and makes us pure through His blood & salvation. Below is a picture of that canvas, and I want all us to be mindful that Jesus takes it all away. He is the one who has paid the price & all He demands is we live for Him. Let Jesus take your sin & filth away, and live REDEEMED. Amen.

Turkey Bowl

This coming Saturday, November 21, we are heading up to the church for our 1st annual Turkey Bowl! It will be a co-ed flag football game, so everyone is invited to come out. Bring your cleats, some warm clothes, and lots of FRIENDS! The more people the better!

Afterwards, we'll all meet up at Chick-Fil-A for some lunch & fellowship. No better way to celebrate a Turkey Bowl than with a chicken sandwich, right?

We're going to have an awesome time tossing around the pigskin, so be sure to come out.

New Life Baptist Student Ministries

Welcome to the official blog for New Life Baptist Church Student Ministries of Bryant, AR! My name is John Venable, the student minister, and I am really excited you stopped by!

On this site you will find all kinds of updates, information, and announcements regarding the student ministry, so be sure to check it often and add it as a tab/favorite to your internet toolbar. It will serve as a great resource, and keep you up to date on what's happening. I will also post some different things here and there, so hopefully it will be fun as well.

Our Wednesday night gathering is called The Harvest, hence the name of the blog, and it comes from Matthew 9:37, which says: "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few." I hope as you continue to get involved you will respond to the challenge within that verse, and that challenge is to go and spread the Good News of Jesus to everyone, everywhere. The time is now.

Please feel free to email me anytime at johnavenable@gmail.com and look me up on Facebook. I can't wait to see what the Lord is going to do! God Bless!
